Meet The Band > Lucy O'Neill

1st Baritone

Instrument: Baritone

Playing History:

I started off playing as a member of a section of a baritone and a euphonium at Middleton youth band in 2004 just after they returned from their annual trip to the 1940's war weekends which I have been a part of since then and have been truly amazed at how the bad has progressed.

Shortly after this I joined the school brass band on bottom second baritone and have now progressed to top 1st baritone XD

At the age of 14 I started to sit in with the Middleton main band and did that for a year before wanting to move on to do contesting and hope to make a name for myself other than the ones I had previously gained.

At 15, just weeks before my 16th birthday ( which was spend at band may I add) I joined Denton brass band where i was moved onto Bb bass and was learning random solo's on trombone in me spare time

school joined them in moving me onto bass but they had me on Eb - quite a difficult swap between keys!

In the September just after receiving my GCSE results i moved onto Greenfield because I moved onto Euphonium and they had the seat i wanted vacant and i simply couldn't do the swap between Bb bass and Euphonium - i was inspired by the Childs family and my big brother Adam.

I stayed with them until the weekend of the Butlins contest in skegness 2010.

I did at that point plan on making a return to Middleton band again after taking a short break from banding to sort my AS Levels out. but that break didnt last long - i Joined Blackley in midd March 2010 where i took over the solo seat - one i plan to keep and hopefully make my name as a soloist.

Favourite Piece?

Either Grandfathers Clock, Myfanwy, Neath the Dublin Skies or Benedictus solo's wise. contest pieces probs Three-Part Invention

Worst Piece?

TRYPICH! or Roman Tryptich or even Sladeburn i've played it so many times

Proudest banding moment?

my first soloistic performance with my best friend Becky playing Deep Inside the Sacred Temple

Most embarrassing moment?

oh gosh, there's many that i dont wish to go into!

Anything to add?

i do at some point in my life wish to take after my brother and play the solo euphonium seat at Middleton band and make Adam proud of me
